Calls for submissions for the Belém Mission to 1.5 are now open.
At COP30 in Belém, Brazil last year, countries recognised the need for urgent action to speed up reductions of greenhouse gas emissions to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
The Belém Mission to 1.5 aims to enable ambition and implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and help drive global cooperation and investment to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
As part of our role as President of Negotiations for COP31, Australia is working with Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Brazil to deliver the Mission to 1.5 in 2026.
Over this year we'll work with UNFCCC Parties and stakeholders to find ways to:
- help countries put their national climate and adaptation plans into action
- boost international cooperation on climate change
- grow investment in climate action
We are calling for submissions to inform these discussions and jointly shape the Belém Mission to 1.5, with a report to be released ahead of COP31 in Antalya in November.
Submissions may choose to focus on global, country, regional or local scales and address any of the following:
1. What action areas and solutions have the highest impact potential to support the submission, ambition and implementation of the NDCs and NAPs. This could include consideration of
a. priority solutions and innovations across policies, technologies, practices and investments
b. finance, technology, capacity building, and institutional opportunities, and
c. the most significant barriers.
2. What is required to further strengthen international cooperation to enhance ambition and enable the effective implementation of NDCs and NAPs?
Submissions will be made publicly available unless indicated otherwise.
Visit the UNFCCC website to learn more and lodge a submission.
Submission close 30 June 2026.
